Good news for all home owners. 70sqm stand-alone dwelling must have a simple design, comply with the Building Code, and be constructed using lightweight materials with a timber or steel frame. The maximum overall height is 4 meters. (Applies to single storey, detached dwellings only. The floor must be less than 1meter above ground, and mezzanine floors are not permitted. The building must also be located at least 2 metres from other residential buildings and property boundaries.

The unit must include independent electricity and gas connections (if Applicable), and solid fuel heaters are not allowed. Construction must be carried out or supervised by licensed professionals. Before starting, the owner must obtain a project information memorandum (PIM) and notify the local council. Local planning and zoning rules may apply to development contributions. Once completed, as built plans and relevant work certificates must be submitted to council.
